licences. They were cancelled in February. There was review petition on
that by most of the telcos. CNBC-TV18's Malvika Jain reports.
There is no clarity on the fate of the 2G review petitions. The
proceedings began 1:30 pm in the afternoon yesterday. It was just the
two judges - Justice Singhvi and Justice Radhakrishnan and their court
staff. CNBC-TV understands that the proceedings did not last for too
long. But after that, there was no word from the Supreme Court.
There are as many as ten review petitions which have been filed. While
the government wants the portion related to policy issues to be
reviewed, the telecom companies don't want their licences to be squashed.
A Raja, the prime accused in the 2G scandal, wants the entire order to
be set-aside because he believes that this order will have a direct
adverse impact on his trial at the 2G trial court.
Now, whether these petitions have been accepted or not, maybe there will
be some clarity today. But the most nervous applicants are the telecom
companies because if their review petitions are not accepted then it
effectively means that on June 2, when the 2G cancellation order becomes
operative, their licenses will get squashed.
